In the series “fevered tropics,” all of the collages are made from scanned and printed American colonial text books and postcards about the Philippines. I am interested in taking colonial imagery and transforming them into new images that are less legible, less understood. Some of the collages have “porous membranes,” layers with holes in them. I am interested in fluid boundaries, apparent divisions that can’t completely separate or categorize. Neon pink has become an important color, something seductive but also referencing danger or poison.
