“Itinerant Maladies” (2018) was a solo exhibition at La Bodega Gallery in Brooklyn. I created a circular installation out of collaged and painted American colonial texts and photos about the Philippines. The outside of the paper structure was black and white, while the inside was bright fuchsia. The inside also had LED lights embedded within the collaged paper. Alongside this interactive paper environment were papier-mâché sculptures collaged out of the same colonial texts, but focused on architectural photos. On the wall were 6 mixed media paintings on wood composed from the fragments of collage from the installation. There were 4 public programs throughout the exhibition - a poetry reading, a movement performance, a guided meditation, and and artist talk. All of the cultural producers who participated also create work adjacently related to longing, constructed identities, relationship to one’s origins, and landscape.
